We identify wines by different methods.  Wine drinkers usually refer to a wine by the grape that it is composed from or the place where the grapes are grown. When wines are names after their grape variety, the consumer will have a point of reference to apply to the flavors and what they can ultimately expect from the wine.  However, when wines get their names from their place of origin, consumers will need some idea of which varietals are produced in that region.
